When to go

High season in Turkey runs from June through August. During this period you can expect hot, dry days and larger crowds. It’s a particularly wonderful time to be on the coast, either at the beach or cruising on a gulet. May and September are the shoulder season months, considered by many as the ideal time to go. Temperatures are warm to hot and things are not typically as busy. April and October are also wonderful, as the weather is still very pleasant (ideal for active travel) and things are quieter. November through March is the low season, with cooler weather and rain (or even snow) in some regions. While those winter months are generally less popular, destinations like Istanbul are always engaging.

How long to go

Turkey has enough depth and character to keep you busy and happy for months. But we appreciate that most people have somewhere between a few days and a few weeks. A short stay (3-7 days) will give you enough time to experience Istanbul with perhaps a very quick side trip to somewhere like Ephesus. A medium length stay (8-14 days) is generally enough time to include Istanbul plus two to four additional chapters, such as Cappadocia and a gulet cruise. If you’re lucky enough to come for a longer stay (3 weeks or more) you’ll be able to see all of the highlights (plus some off-the-beaten path gems) at a leisurely pace. AFEL TRAVEL will help you determine the ideal itinerary and pace for you.
